Record spring rainfall and rapid snowmelt caused catastrophic flooding across the upper Midwest, affecting communities along the Mississippi and Missouri river systems.

Response Activities

  • Distributed 25,000 sandbags and flood barriers to at-risk communities
  • Evacuated 1,200 residents from flood zones using boats and vehicles
  • Opened 8 emergency shelters with capacity for 3,000 people
  • Provided hot meals and clean water to 15,000 displaced residents
  • Deployed damage assessment teams to 12 counties
